Meine Geschichten - Umwelt

Hallo Leute!

Dieser Text ist ganz frisch aus der Feder, noch nicht einmal Korrektur gelesen, aber er musste jetzt einfach online. Eine Englischhausaufgabe...

How to make other people environmentally aware

The one page guide by Rose

We live in a country where the freedom of speech is granted.
We live in a country where everyone has the right to listen to your opinion.
But worst of all we live in a country where people have the right to ignore your opinion.

My English teacher asked my to list three things to raise other people’s enthusiasm about the protection of the environment.

But I can’t.
I believe that you can do something for the environment. You can recycle, you can use energy saving lamps and use your feet to visit your next door neighbour.
You can tell others about it if you want to.
But they cannot be forced to believe like you do!

People have their own believes, their opinions and attitudes. And they are perfectly able to inform themselves. If they want to know, there are millions of books, billions of brochures and trillions of eco-missionaries.

You can show them pictures of birds dying in oil or have some primary school girls sing stupid little songs. You can do a million things that Greenpeace is doing a million times better. Maybe someone will listen to you. Perhaps he or she will even show interest.
This someone will probably take the car home, watch TV and forget.
If you’re really lucky, your someone might turn off the light before he or she leaves the next day.
And that’s it.

When I see a hand written poster that talks about saving the environment, probably in a child’s handwriting and with horrible spelling mistakes, I can only think one thing:

“Oh look, how nice. That little one learns how to write! Our school system isn’t as bad as they told me…”

But to be honest: If you want to do something for the environment, than don’t produce more rubbish by putting useless posters everywhere. They ARE rubbish!
If you want to have a clean environment, clean the environment. That’s the nearby forest, not your schoolyard, you know? There is so much asphalt; there will be nothing natural for years even if you let it get wild right now!

So how to raise people’s enthusiasm?
Just don’t!

Enthusiasm has to come from oneself and can’t be raised by someone else. That’s just how it is! No films, no pictures, no nice little musicals will do anything for the environment at all.

You have to educate children. NOT to safe the environment but to respect nature as the wonderful being and great mother we all came from. As long as tree hugging is not a world religion as big as all the ones we have now – summed together (!) there is no room in the minds, no chance to safe this planet.

One can only be completely into it, which means one doesn’t need any posters to remember it – or not into it at all.

If you don’t respect earth as the wonderful being she is, you will only be a hobby-tree-hugger one day. And if it’s just a hobby, you will play football or do Sudoku instead of saving the world sooner or later.

Of cause this is only my opinion.
